With a career spanning more than 30 years in the property industry, as QICGRE’s Managing Director, Michael is responsible for driving real estate investment and business strategy in alignment with the expectations of our investors, partners and the communities in which we operate.
Michael has long-standing experience in managing end-to-end real estate platforms, including funds management, finance and shopping centre operations, management and development.
He joined QICGRE from Vicinity where he held the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer, and previous to that spent almost a decade with GPT, where he was instrumental in strategically repositioning and repositioning the business after the GFC, with roles including Acting Chief Executive, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer.
Michael continues to drive QICGRE’s diversity and inclusion initiatives as an executive member of the Champions of Change Property Group.
Michael completed a Bachelor of Business in Commerce at University of NSW and Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. Michael also sits on the Board of the Green Building Council of Australia.

Michael O’Brien is a Member of the Champions of Change Property Group established in 2015 in partnership with The Property Council of Australia. The Property group brings together senior leaders across the industry’s development and construction, investment, funds management and agency sectors. The group aims to achieve greater gender equality in the property industry and to increase the number of women in leadership roles.
