Setting targets with teeth means ensuring that diversity targets are tied to rewards, just like any other priority business objective.

As Elmer Funke Kupper relates “The idea behind this was simple: to achieve a material improvement in gender diversity at all levels of the company.  To get to this at the ASX, we introduced diversity targets that were a real stretch, almost unreasonable from the position we found ourselves in. And then we tied them to incentives. When we did this, the organisation moved in a way that I thought was not possible.”
