Stuart Ellis AM was appointed Chief Executive Officer of AFAC in 2012. Stuart is focussed on national initiatives that progress the professional standing of fire and emergency services. He approached Elizabeth Broderick in 2017 to establish the Male Champions of Change Fire and Emergency Group.
Previously, Stuart Ellis was the Chief Executive Officer/Chief Officer of the South Australian Country Fire Service. In 2002 he established a consultancy company and has been involved in over 20 operational reviews including the Canberra Bushfires; the Victorian Bushfire Royal Commission; and also the operational response to the Christchurch Earthquake.
Prior to that Stuart was an Army Officer for over 22 years serving with the Special Air Service (SAS) Regiment.
Stuart Ellis is a Member of the Champions of Change Fire & Emergency Group which was established in 2017 in partnership with the Australasian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council (AFAC). The group includes Chief Executives and Commissioners leading more than 30 agencies responsible for fire, emergency and land management services across Australia and New Zealand. The group is committed to advancing gender equity, inclusive cultures and achieving significant and sustainable improvements in the representation of women in their workplaces.
