Stephen Griffin was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) in May 2014. Stephen has extensive experience in local government management, as well as broad management expertise developed over a number of years. Reporting to the Victoria State Emergency Service Authority’s Board, Stephen’s role is to provide leadership to the organisation (including 5,000 volunteers). The VICSES day to day purpose is to partner with the community to provide timely and effective emergency service response.
Until May 2014 Stephen was the Chief Executive Officer of the City of Greater Geelong and previously held a number of management positions at the City of Greater Geelong, Wyndham City Council and City of Melbourne. Stephen is also a board member of Procurement Australia, and Australian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council.

Champions of Change Fire & Emergency
Stephen Griffin is a Member of the Champions of Change Fire & Emergency Group which was established in 2017 in partnership with the Australasian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council (AFAC). The group includes Chief Executives and Commissioners leading more than 30 agencies responsible for fire, emergency and land management services across Australia and New Zealand. The group is committed to advancing gender equity, inclusive cultures and achieving significant and sustainable improvements in the representation of women in their workplaces.
