Monica Edwards is an architect who agitates for structural reform of the profession. She challenges the traditional hierarchies of architectural practice to move towards collaborations which better mirror society, reflecting diverse capabilities and life experiences.
Monica Edwards reasons that authentic change in the profession is best enabled using a top down bottom up approach and she brings this to her advocacy with the Institute of Architects NSW Chapter Gender Equity Taskforce (GET) and the development of the Chapter’s cross-generational mentoring program.
A Senior Associate at SJB, Monica is a registered architect with expertise in the delivery of multi-residential, civic and education projects and a regular tutor, guest critic and guest lecturer for architectural undergraduate courses in NSW.
Monica Edwards is a Member of the Champions of Change Architects Group established in 2015 in partnership with the Australian Institute of Architects. The Group is committed to working together to proactively address the issue of gender equality, and women’s representation in leadership in Australian architecture practices, and across the profession.
