Mark Healey joined Bates Smart in 2003, spending his early years in the company working abroad on large scale hospitality projects in the UK and Asia. On his return to the Melbourne studio, he became the lead interior designer on the award- winning Royal Children’s Hospital — a world-leading paediatric hospital — and has since gone on to lead several high-quality healthcare projects such as Tweed Valley Hospital, Bendigo Hospital and the Gandel Wing at Cabrini Hospital.
As well as healthcare, Mark has significant multi-residential, civic and commercial experience, and consistently demonstrates his ability to deliver high quality and coherent design solutions to complex briefs.
Mark is an open and intuitive designer who seeks to distil a client’s vision into a reductive, minimal aesthetic, imbued with a strong sense of materiality. He believes in using the positive qualities of nature, in particular natural light, to enliven his work and create empathetic human centric spaces we want to inhabit.

The Group is committed to working together to proactively address the issue of gender equality, and women’s representation in leadership in Australian architecture practices, and across the profession.
