John Kenny joined Colliers in 1991 and has held various transactional, operational and innovation roles before being appointed Chief Executive Officer, Australia and New Zealand in 2006. In 2020, John was appointed to Chief Executive Officer, Asia Pacific and is part of the Global Executive team responsible for Colliers’ enterprising culture.
John joined the Property Champions of Change in 2015 where alongside other industry leaders they use their individual and collective effort to increase gender equality with a focus on leadership, talent development, public advocacy, and accountability.
As a global enterprise Colliers has made diversity and inclusion one of the company’s strategic areas of focus – stating it is not only the right thing to do, it is one of the ways to lead our industry into the future.
Championing diversity and inclusion is not a commitment John takes lightly. Colliers is on a progressive journey to foster a workplace environment where everyone, regardless of gender, background, ethnicity, age, religion, sexual orientation, or experiences feels respected and comfortable bringing their authentic selves to do their best work.
Establishing processes to assess and track diversity progress, understanding and confronting unconscious biases, creating a trusting environment where meaningful, complex and sometimes difficult conversations can take place, and establishing relationships with external organisations like the Champions of Change to help us learn best practices are all part of the gender diversity strategy and journey for Colliers.
In Australia, Colliers has successfully implemented a range of initiatives that help create change. Annual gender equity pay reviews, promoting female participation rates at company and industry events, and activating gender levers in recruiting and promotion processes are shared learnings from the Champions of Change group helping Colliers make a difference. The strength of Colliers’ employment practices saw Colliers Australia awarded the Aon / Kincentric Best Employer Award for four consecutive years from 2017 and also recognised as a LinkedIn Top Company in 2019.
John’s contribution and leadership within the property industry has been recognised as he is both a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Australian Property Institute (API). John has served as a Director of the Property Council of Australia and is currently a Director of the Property Industry Foundation.
