Dominic Lane is the Chief Executive of the SA Fire and Emergency Services Commission and Chair of the SAFECOM Board and is tasked with providing strategic leadership and direction to the South Australian emergency services sector. Dom joined the NSW Bush Fire Service as a member of the Milbrulong Brigade in 1984. In 1993 he was appointed the honorary Deputy Fire Control Officer for the Lockhart Shire Council. In 1995 Dom was appointed to the position of Fire Control Officer for the Balranald and Wakool Councils and went on to hold a range of management and executive functions in the NSW Rural Fire Service. He made a significant contribution in the management of major disasters and emergencies across NSW.

Dominic Lane was Commissioner of the ACT Emergency Services Agency from 2013 until 2019 and his role covered a wide portfolio including the strategic direction and management of all the emergency services including the ACT Ambulance Service, the ACT Fire & Rescue, the ACT Rural Fire Service and the ACT State Emergency Service. He successfully delivered seamless and coordinated emergency and management response across services and partnering agencies, led significant policy reform in mitigation practices and delivered a range of capability enhancements which have helped lead the ACT nationally in emergency service delivery.

Dominic Lane holds extensive fire management qualifications, a graduate certificate in management and a graduate diploma in executive leadership. He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Dominic Lane was awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal in 2004 and the National Medal in 2005.

Champions of Change Fire & Emergency 

Dominic Lane is a Member of the Champions of Change Fire &  Emergency Group which was established in 2017 in partnership with the Australasian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council (AFAC). The group includes Chief Executives and Commissioners leading more than 30 agencies responsible for fire, emergency and land management services across Australia and New Zealand. The group is committed to advancing gender equity, inclusive cultures and achieving significant and sustainable improvements in the representation of women in their workplaces.
