Carmel Hourigan

Carmel Hourigan, BBus (Land Economics), Grad Dip Finance and Investment (Securities Institute)

Carmel Hourigan recently joined Charter Hall as Office CEO and is a member of Charter Hall’s Executive Committee, with over 28 years industry experience spanning key senior leadership positions and roles in funds management, research and advisory services.

She is leading the A$19 billion office sector from end to end including Funds Management, Asset Management, Development and Property Management teams, and helps develop the overall strategy and objectives for the office funds in conjunction with the Charter Hall Fund Managers and our Investors and helps guide the portfolio management, capital transactions, treasury and trust management teams to execute strategy.

Carmel held the position of Global Head of Real Estate at AMP Capital between November 2015 and August 2020. She was responsible for leading the group’s global real estate investment and management business, including the portfolio management and performance of real estate assets for pooled fund investors and separately managed account clients. Carmel also oversaw AMP Capital’s strategic global real estate partnerships with investment managers in the United States, Singapore and New Zealand. Carmel also oversaw AMP Capital’s real estate investment committees, which govern investment strategy and implementation.

Prior to AMP Capital, Carmel was Chief Investment Officer at The GPT Group and prior to that, Head of Investment Management since 2012. Her experience also includes senior roles at Lend Lease and Challenger Financial Services Group in addition to roles within Colonial First State, Stockland Group, Jones Lang LaSalle and Raine & Horne Commercial.

Carmel sits on the Property Council of Australia Board of Directors and has previously held the position of Vice President. She also served as Special Advisor to the Champions of Change Property Group, which is dedicated to increasing gender equality in the property industry; and is a Fellow of the Australian Property Institute. Carmel has also held the position of Deputy Chancellor of Western Sydney University and the Chair of the University Infrastructure Committee.

Qualifications

Carmel Hourigan holds a Bachelor of Business (Land Economics), and a Graduate Diploma of Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia.

The Property group brings together senior leaders across the industry’s development and construction, investment, funds management and agency sectors. The group aims to achieve greater gender equality in the property industry and to increase the number of women in leadership roles.
