Brendon was part of the formation of the Sport Group in 2015.
In a professional athletic career spanning 12 years, Brendon played 244 games of AFL football with the Richmond Football Club from 1990 to 2001.
Upon retirement from professional football, Brendon practiced law with commercial law firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques in the banking and finance practice.
In January 2005, Brendon was appointed CEO of the AFL Players Association where he was responsible for representing the collective industrial interests of all AFL players. Key achievements included the negotiation of 2007-2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement which featured among other things, a player payments package of approximately $800 million, and, an important victory for all AFL players and other Australian professional athletes in the High Court of Australia, in an AFLPA sponsored Tax Test Case concerning the deductibility of player/athlete agent fees.
In September 2009 Brendon returned to the Richmond Football Club when he was appointed CEO. As CEO Brendon leads a diverse team including our subsidiary business Aligned Leisure, established as a vehicle to manage the operations of Richmond’s health, fitness and leisure business activities. In the last 5 years the Richmond Football Club under Brendon’s leadership has achieved record consumer and commercial growth.
Brendon holds a number of directorships and also served on the Board of the Victorian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission from 2009-2013.

Brendon Gale is a Member of the Champions of Change Sport Group established in 2015. The Sport Group includes leaders from every major sport in Australia, and of some of Australia’s most successful sporting clubs. The group is focused on advancing women in leadership, pay equality and creating safe, respectful and inclusive sporting environments.
